Artificial Eye Treatment In Chennai

ARTIFICIAL EYES

One eye may be absent since birth or lost due to injury. Various treatment procedures like use of ball implants, use of lining from inside the mouth (mucous membrane grafting), expanders etc. can be performed to restore near normal appearance. A prosthetic eye can look very natural, and movement is possible in some cases. Artificial eyes can also be placed after removal of a painful/cosmetically unacceptable, blind eye too.

Creating a life-like ocular prosthesis is achieved by utilizing the most advanced fitting techniques, color matching , and a combination of digital technology and hand painted craftsmanship. Fitting the prosthetic eye begins with an ocularist taking an impression mould of the socket. Each prosthesis is individually custom fit and fabricated to maximize movement , comfort and match with the other eye. Meeting and exceeding your expectations is our highest priority. Special arrangements are made at this Artificial Eye Treatment Center in Chennai to complete a prosthetic eye in one day.

DO NOT USE ANTIBACTERIAL SOAPS, ALCOHOL, OR ANY OTHER CHEMICAL SOLVENTS ON THE PROSTHESIS, these can cause contamination and irreversible discoloration. Clean twice a week with clean water. Precaution should be taken to reduce scratches. Keeping the surface of your prosthetic eye clean will help reduce socket irritation. Before handling your prosthetic eye make sure your surroundings are forgiving to the fact that you may accidently drop your prosthesis. This may include putting a towel over the bathroom sink to prevent the prosthetic eye from becoming damaged or lost. Damage to the prosthetic eye can severely limit the comfort, wearability, and cosmesis of the prosthesis. So be especially careful during handling. Artificial tears or lubricant to be used over the prosthesis. Polishing is recommended once a year. Please contact us if there is any change in appearance or comfort.

Your prosthetic eye is a carefully crafted artistic replication, designed to mimic your natural eye in both movement and appearance. Each person's prosthesis is uniquely fit and fabricated to their individual needs. We consider a multitude of different factors when designing your prosthetic eye. While most people's principle concern when adjusting to a new prosthetic eye is the color, a number of other important factors must be equally considered. Other important features such as movement, eyelid contours, volume, and comfort also play a significant role in the natural look and feel of a prosthetic eye. The importance of these factors cannot be overstated. An unnatural fit will be noticed by other people before any small difference in color is perceived. Once you have received your new ocular prosthesis, there are also a few important tips to keep in mind to limit its noticeability. When you are talking to another person, make sure you turn and face them directly. If you are wearing a left prosthetic eye, it is also best to position yourself slightly to the right of the person. The opposite is true for those persons wearing a right prosthetic eye. Because most ocular prostheses move more towards the nose, positioning yourself this way will maximize the prosthetic eye's tracking ability in conversation.

Your ocular prosthesis should be professionally cleaned and polished in the prosthesis centre once a year to remove the buildup of minerals and protein deposits. This visit will also allow us to carefully examine the prosthesis to ensure an optimal fit. This professional cleaning enhances the comfort and extends the longevity of your prosthesis. Most patients are in need of a professional polish when they have one or more of the following symptoms: irritated or itchy eyelids, increased discharge, and an overall change in the cosmetic appearance.

The surgical procedure to remove the entire natural eye is referred to as an enucleation. The surgical procedure to remove the contents of a natural eye is referred to as evisceration. Both procedures will require implant placement during surgery followed by fitting of a prosthetic eye after 6 weeks. Upon removal of the eye, the muscles are reattached to the orbital implant. The implant will replace the lost volume and deliver movement to the ocular prosthesis. Some patients may need mucous membrane(lining from the mouth),or other grafts to increase the lining of the socket . If your child has been diagnosed with congenital anophthalmia/absence of eye since birth or congenital microphthalmia/small eye, our objective will be to restore your child's appearance, and support normal eye socket development. This may include using progressive expanding conformers to enlarge the eye socket cavity for prosthetic eye retention and /or surgery. As a parent of a child in need of an artificial eye, your involvement is invaluable to the ultimate success of their outcome. Parents will be asked to play an important role throughout this process, including in-clinic participation and at-home reinforcement. DRR Prosthetic centre, has extensive experience in the specialized fitting and fabrication techniques needed for pediatric patients.
